OUA Officially Pauses 2021-22 Season

OUA Officially Pauses 2021-22 Season

Effective 3pm on Friday, Ontario University Athletics (OUA), under the direction of its Board of Directors, paused university sport.

With this pause, OUA programming (scrimmages, exhibition games, tournaments, league competition, championships), which was originally scheduled to start back up on January 6th, will commence no earlier than Monday, January 24th. This decision and corresponding timeline have been established in an effort to better allow member institutions to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on student-life programming and allow for student-athletes to have sufficient time to properly train and prepare for the winter championship stretch run.

For the Voyageurs, this means that the men's and women's basketball teams will not play their scheduled games against York and Ryerson and will hope to be back on the court to battle the Ottawa Gee-Gees on February 4th and 5th.  The men's and women's indoor track teams will also forgo the Fred Foot Classic in Toronto and will hope to be racing at Western on January 29th.

The OUA Board of Directors will continue to assess the state of the COVID-19 pandemic and will be prepared to extend this pause beyond January 24th if necessary.

The OUA and its Board of Directors want to assure student-athletes and coaches that every effort will be made to deliver sport in the winter, all while keeping the health and safety of all OUA stakeholders at the forefront of any decisions.
