MBB | Voyageurs Win Big in Home Finale

The Voyageurs looked to close their home schedule on a high note, taking on the Guelph Gryphons in their Ben Avery finale. In what was an impressive display of offense, the Vee's defeated the Gryphons 79-50. The win extends the Vee's season high win streak to four games.

Both teams opened the game with similar attack plans: drive the paint early and often. The strategy was effective for both teams, with the early minutes of the game a back and forth battle. What separated the combatants was Laurentian's ability to refocus on defense and adjust to limit Guelph's effectiveness with the ball. For a long stretch in the second quarter the Gryphons looked trapped on offense, unable to complete passes or secure the ball. The Vee's took full advantage by getting up the court with speed and tenacity. The fast paced attack seemed to overwhelm the Gryphons who now found themselves in a sizeable deficit.
Sloppy play and a broken offense defined the second half for the Gryphons. Meaningless possessions and 9 turnovers in the final two frames put them to rest. For the Vee's, it was a continuation of their first quarter efforts. A constant focus on the paint and pesky defensive play kept the Voyageurs lead comfortable for the entirety of the final 20 minutes.
It was another group effort for Laurentian, with four players in double digit scoring again tonight.
Kadre Gray and Nelson Yengue led all scorers with 18 points a piece, with Gray adding 11 rebounds for the double double. For the Gryphons, it was Daniel Dooley and Drew Walford who led their team
with 11 points each.
The Voyageurs will look to stay hot and avenge one of their toughest losses of the season next Friday on the road against the Nipissing Lakers.
