MBB | Gaiters and Voyageurs Find Win Column on Day 2 of Tournament

Day two of the Voyageurs Pre-Season Tournament saw a quartet of teams hit the hardwood as the Bishop's Gaiters and Western Mustangs tangle before the host Voyageurs battled the Waterloo Warriors.  When the dust settled, it was the hosts and the Gaiters standing on top with 1-0 records.

The battle of the purple jerseys in the first game was a fairly even contest through the first 10 minutes but it was in the second stanza where the Gaiters began to pull away, outscoring the Mustangs by 10 to take a 44-28 lead into the half.  Western mounted a comeback in the 3rd quarter, cutting the deficit in half thanks to some solid free throw shooting but the Gaiters regained their composure in the final period to see out the 84-75 win.

Leading the way for the Gaiters was Jordan Thornhill with a 13 point, 12 rebound double-double.  Thornhill was one of five Gaiters to score in double figures, four of whom had 13 points, in the well balanced attack.  For the Mustang, Eriq Jenkins had a game high 19 points in the losing effort.

In the second game of the night, the hosts came out firing, running out to a 23-0 lead before the Warriors finally converted a free throw to break the goose egg.  The Voyageurs kept the peddle down throughout the quarter, taking a 42-12 lead into the second frame.  Despite a small Warrior surge in the second, the Voyageurs took a 53-32 lead into halftime and cruised to a 98-74 victory.

The Voyageurs had five players in double figures on the night, led by reigning U SPORTS Player of the Year, Kadre Gray, who tallied a game high 19 pts, 5 rbs and 6 asts.  Curtis Gordon also had a big night, going 5-7 from beyond the arc to account for all of his 15 points.  For the Warriors, it was Simon Petrov leading the way with 17 points and Nedim Hodzic chipping in with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Action continues on Saturday as the Gaiters and Warriors face off at 5pm while the Mustangs and Voyageurs go toe-to-toe at 7pm.
