GOLF | Quesnel Etches Name in Voyageurs History Books

WINDSOR, ON – Second-year Voyageur, Nick Quesnel, has a lot to be happy about today as he etched his name into the Voyageurs history books with a second place finish at the OUA Championships held at Ambassador Golf Club in Windsor.

Quesnel saved his best golf of the year for the championships, firing a first round 68 and then following that up with a solid second round of 72. He shared the lead throughout most of the second round but was surpassed on the last hole after Laurier's Austin Ryan drained an eagle to secure the two stroke victory. To date, Quesnel's silver medal performance is the best showing for a Voyageur at the OUA Golf Championships.

As a team, the men’s squad finished 10th overall, with a combined two round total of 601. Along with Quesnel, the Voyageurs were led by Dale Valade (150, T-37), Nico Presot (154, T-48), Liam Hamlin (158, T-62) and Marshall Graper (161, T-67).

On the women’s side, lone Voyageur, Mélanie Kappel, finished her 2016 season with a strong inaugural showing, good for 41st overall.

Laurentian University's Department of Athletics is home to 23 varsity sports teams. The Voyageurs decorated history of pride and tradition includes 62 provincial championships as well as 10 national championships in 54 years of competition.
