MHKY | Voyageurs Upend Northern Rivals, 3-1

On Wednesday night, the Voyageurs men's hockey team won their second game in as many nights, when they beat Nipissing 3-1.

The Voyageurs surrendered the first goal of the game at 8:37 of the first period when Joel Herbert snuck one passed Charlie Millen.

As time was winding down in the first frame, Darcy Haines tied things up at one a piece when he beat Lakers goalie Doemnic Graham. Dylan Fitze and Bradley MacDonald picked up the assists on the play. Both teams headed to the dressing room for the first intermission even at 1-1.

After hitting the ice for the second period, the Vees wasted little time taking the lead as Brent Pedersen scored at 3:26 of the second period, with the assists going to Tyler Shaw and Andrew Tessier.

Just over a minute after that, Richard Therrien increased the Voyageurs lead to two. Therien's goal was assisted by Blake Luscombe and Cray Roberge.

Neither team would be able to score for the rest of the game. Charlie Millen was exceptional in net for the Voyageurs for the second game in a row as he made 34 saves on Wednesday night, fending off any attempt at a comeback for the Lakers.

The Lakers and the Voyageurs will rematch on Friday night at Countryside arena. Puck drop is at 7:35PM.
