MHKY | Voyageurs Edge Ravens 3-1 in Great Team Victory

On Friday night, the Laurentian Voyageurs beat the visiting Carleton Ravens 3-1 after a great team effort.

The Ravens did open the scoring at 4:11 of the first period, when David Weckworth was able to sneak a wrister over the right shoulder of Joel Vienneau.

Despite being down by one, the Voyageurs spent almost the entire first period controlling the play in the Raven zone. The line of Dylan Fitze, Richard Therrien and Graham Yeo were arguably Laurentian's best line all night and generated the first Laurentian goal of the evening.
After absolutely rocking Raven forward Brett Gustavsen, Dylan Fitze picked up a loose puck in the crease and threw the puck into the back of the net for the tying goal at 15:54 of the first. Fitze's goal was assisted by Therrien and Yeo. The first period would end with both teams tied at one a piece and Laurentian leading 10 to 7 in shots.

The second period was full of penalties and the constant whistled impeded the flow of the Voyageurs attack. However, the Vees found a way to get the job done. At 9:22 of the second and on the powerplay, Tyler Shaw crept in from the point and recieved a pass from Nicolas Dionne that he was able to put passed Raven goalie Francois Brassard. Vincent Llorca picked up the secondary assist on Shaw's goal. The Voyageurs killed off three powerplays in the second period and Vienneau stopped all nine shots he faced.
Both teams hit the ice for the third period a little reserved as neither team wanted to surrender the next goal. As the time wore on, however, both teams began exchanging scoring opportunities as the Ravens were beginning to feel the pressure.
The Voyageurs were able to thwart any attack the Ravens generated. Vienneau stopped all 7 shots he faced in the period, and with just over a minute left and the Raven goalie pulled, grabbed ahold of the puck and fired it in the direction of the empty cage. The play ended up being a stellar assist to the awaiting Fitze who put the puck into the empty net for his second of the game and to give the Vees a 3-1 lead.
Friday's win was the Vees sixth of the season and they will look to make it seven tomorrow night when they host the RMC Paladins at 7:35PM.
