MHKY | Vees Doubled by Gaels 6-3 in Last Game of 2016

On Friday night, in the Voyageurs last game before the December exam break, the Gaels doubled the Vees 6-3.

The Gaels opened the scoring near the end of the first period when Ryan Bloom beat Charlie Millen at 14:04 to give the Gaels a 1-0 lead. Richard Therrien answered for the Vees just over a minute later on the power play, on an effort set up by Chris Smi h and Elliott Richardson. The first period ended with the Gaels just outshooting the Vees 8-7.

The Gaels again jumped out to an early lead in the second period, when Slater Doggett scored just 44 seconds in. The Vees would again answer, this time off the stick of Brent Pedersen at 10:45. Pedersen's goal was assited by Darcy Haines and Richard Therrien. The Vees would then jump out to their first lead of the game minutes later, when Elliott Richardson scored on the powerplay to give the Vees a 3-2 advantage. Nicolas Dionne had the lone assist on the Vees third goal. The Gaels, determined to get even before the end of the second, ended up scoring two goals in 35 seconds before the second frame was over. Peter Angelopolous scored first at 18:18, then Ryan Bloom with his second of the game at 18:53.

The Gaels did all the scoring in the third period and fended off any chance the Vees had of getting the game tied. Slater Doggett scored his second of the evening shorthanded at 3:27, and then Eric Margo scored on the Voyageur empty net at 15:41.
 
With the loss, the Vees now occupy the last available playoff position in the Eastern Conference as they head into the December exam break. The Vees are back on the ice in January as they'll try to climb back up the standings in the second half.
