MHKY | Vees Third Period Collapse Leads to 6-3 Laurier Win

On Saturday night, the Laurentian Voyageurs mens hockey team collapsed during the third period, surrendering a 3-1 lead which eventually resulted in Laurier winning 6-3.
Laurentian began the game strong, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead when Jacob Smith scored his second goal in as many nights just over three minutes into the first frame. Smith's goal was assisted by Brent Pedersen.
Pedersen would score his own goal before the first period ended, giving the Vees a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission. Pedersen's goal was assisted by Jacob Smith and Elliott Richardson.
Laurier would get on the board in the second period, when Christian Mroczkowski scored at 1:59.

In the dying seconds of the period, however, the Vees would regain their two-goal advantage when Nicolas Dionne corralled a rebound generated by Vinny Llorca's point shot on the powerplay. The secondary assist on Dionne's goal was awarded to Chris Smith.
Unfortunately for the Vees, it was literally all Laurier in the third period, as they scored five unanswered goals. Will Cook scored at 9:15 to bring the Golden Hawks within one.

At 11:50, Danny Hanlon, who had been buzzin all night, tied the game as he snuck one passed Joel Vienneau.

At 15:01, Laurier jumped out to their first lead of the game when Cole Porter's centering pass took a fortuitous bounce off a Laurentian stick and behind Vienneau.

Laurier would add two empty net goals before the game concluded, resulting in a final score of 6-3 for the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks. After going 1-1 to start the second half of the season this weekend, the Vees are back on the road next weekend as they look to get back into the win column as the push for the playoffs heats up.
