MHKY | Voyageurs Complete Weekend Sweep With 6-3 Victory Over Brock
On Saturday night, the Voyageurs, with a depleted lineup, managed to complete the weekend sweep and earn four points after beating the Brock Badgers 6-3.
Having both played the night before, both teams hit the ice in the first period a bit sluggish as neither team was overly agrressive and neither team finding the back of the net.
Things became interesting in the second however, and all in a matter of minutes.
At 7:20 of the second and on the powerplay, Tyler Shaw pounced on a rebound generated by a Darcy Haines shot and put it over the glove of Alex Brooks-Potts, giving the Vees a 1-0 advantage.
Two minutes later, Mack Lemmon was set up all alone in the slot and he was able to beat Joel Vienneau, tying the game at one a piece.
17 seconds after that, Darcy Haines banged home a puck that came loose in the crease, restoring the Voyageurs one goal lead.
Once again, the Badgers were quick to answer, scoring less than a minute later and tying the game at two, this time off the stick of Adam Lloyd.
The third period was all Voyageurs, as just 2:35 into the final frame, Tyler Shaw scored his second of the evening after he was set up beautifully by Richard Therrien.
Five minutes later, Elliott Richardson scored as he beat Brooks-Potts over the glove hand on a two man advantage.
Still on the powerplay, Nick Esposto finished off a nifty passing play by Darcy Haines and Tyler Shaw at 8:20, giving the Vees a 5-2 lead.
The Badgers would get one back on a powerplay of their own when Sammy Banga had a puck squirt loose to him with Vienneau sprawled out completely.
Richard Therrien would add an empty netter for his third point of the night, sealing the deal on the Voyageurs second win in as many nights.
The Voyageurs play their final two games of the regular season next weekend as they host Ottawa and McGill and get ready to turn things up a notch going into the post-season.
