MHKY | Voyageurs Upended in Season Opener

MHKY | Voyageurs Upended in Season Opener

On Friday night, the Voyageurs men's hockey team travelled to Queens and opened the regular season with a 5-2 loss.

The Vees got off to a good start as Dylan Fitze opened the scoring at 17:18 of the first period on a play assisted by Kaden Ruest

Queen's responded with a goal of their own just 10 seconds later on an unassisted effort by Luke Bertolucci.

Laurentian quickly regained there lead, again just 27 seconds later, as Xavier Couture scored his first goal as a Voyageur. The Voyageurs took their 2-1 lead into the dressing room for the first intermission.

The Gael's dominated the Voyageurs in the second period, outshooting them 20-9. Slater Doggett tied the game for Queen's at 11:35, and 21 seconds later, Brandon Prophet scored the go-ahead goal for the Gael's.

The third period was a near reproduction of the first, as Queen's would score twice and put the game out of reach for the Vee's. Eric Ming scored first at 7:07 and Slater Doggett added an empty netter.

The Voyageurs are back at it again tomorrow as they travel to RMC and take on the Paladins at 7pm.
