MHKY | Voyageurs Doubled by Warriors in Home Opener
On Friday night, the Voyageurs men's hockey team was handed their first home loss of the season as Waterloo doubled the Vees 6-3.

The Warriors opened the scoring at 9:19 of the first period off the stick of Ryan Hanes.

Less than a minute later, the Warriors doubled their lead, this time off the sick of Joey Champigny.

The Warriors continued to dominate as Mitch Elliot scored at 13:05, increasing the Warriors lead to 3-0.

Waterloo added a fourth before the period ended when Cole Murphy put one behind Joel Vienneau, sending both teams to the first intermission with the Vees down 4-0.

The Vees finally got on the board at 8:18 of the second period when Joel Vienneau sprung Richard Therrien on a breakaway, and Therrien made good on his bid to break Mike Morrison's shutout attempt. Therrien's goal was the only tally of the period.

The Warriors struck first in the third, when Daniel Perigo scored to make it 5-1.

The Voyageurs tried to start the comeback as Blake Forslund tipped one home at 3:13.

With just over five minutes left, Caleb Apperson scored on the power play to bring the Vees within two.

That was as close as the Voyageurs would get, however, as Perigo scored his second of the night for a final score of 6-3.

The Voyageurs look to redeem themselves tomorrow tonight as they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at Countryside Arena.
