MHKY | Voyageurs Drop Weekend Finale to Stingers

On Saturday night, the Voyageurs men's hockey team was defeated by the Concordia Stingers, 6-1.

The Voyageurs withheld the Stingers throughout the first as goalie, Gunner Rivers, denied all 15 shots in the frame. Although both teams came out relentless and hungry for a goal with many scoring opportunities on both sides, the first period ended in a scoreless tie.

Both teams carried the energy from the first into the second, generating more scoring chances at both ends, trying to solve Rivers and Stingers goalie Marc-Antoine Turcotte. The scoreless drought ended at the four minute mark when Nicolas Dionne netted his first of the season from some nice puck movement by Dylan Fitze and Andrew Tessier. The Stingers responded just a minute later when Anthony Beauregard put his league leading 11th goal past Rivers on the powerplay sending the teams into the intermission knotted at 1-1.

The break proved to be much needed for the Stingers as they came out of the intermission with renewed energy. Just 23 seconds into the frame, Dominic Beauchemin put the Stingers up by one. The Voyageurs added some offensive pressure looking for the equalizer but at the seven minute mark of the third, the Stingers went on a scoring flurry netting four consecutive goals in the frame to close out the game with a 6-1 victory.

The Voyageurs are back in action next Friday as they welcome the Queen's Gaels to Countryside Arena, puck drops at 7:35pm.
