MHKY | Voyageurs Salvage Point Against Gee-Gees

On Saturday night, the Voyageurs men's hockey team lost a tough drawn out battle against the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees 4-3, earning them their second victory of the season.

The Gee-Gees opened the scoring early in the first period, as Cody Drover beat MacKenzie Savard at 11:03 of the first period, resulting in the only action of the first.

The Voyageurs were left confused as the Gee-Gees added another two into the scoring column as Mathieu Newcomb and Brendan Jacome lead the charge with two goals individually.

The Vees had an offensive explosion in the third scoring three unanswered goals. Richard Therrien scored on the power play with the help of Caleb Apperson and Dylan Fitze as he beat Anthony Brodeur with a slick shot giving the Vees a positive outlook.

As the Gee-Gees seemed at ease as the win was nearly in the bag, Caleb Apperson scored on a rocket shot from the point fed from Russell Nowry at 18:48 in the third. This goal woke up the Gee-Gees and put the Vees into over drive as Nicolas Dionne tied the game at 3-3 with just 40 seconds left to go in the third period putting this nail biter into overtime.

Neither offensive attacks were able to end the game in a sudden death three on three overtime as MacKenzie Savard finished the frames with 46 saves.

A tired Savard was beat by both Connor Sills and Kevin Domingue in the shootout for the win as neither Dionne nor Brent Pedersen were able to beat Brodeur in the shootout.

The Voyageurs are back next Saturday as they head to Kingston to take on the Queen's Gaels.
