MHKY | Voyageurs Can't Keep Up to Ridgebacks

The Laurentian Men's hockey team kicked off their season opener against the UOIT Ridgebacks last night.

The Voyageurs were definitely excited to play the first regular season game and kicked the jitters to the curb as they came out strong and ready to play.

Although the first period started off slow the Voyageurs and Ridgebacks managed the same stat line as each other with both one goal and one penalty.

The first goal to come in the period was scored by Mike Robinson of UOIT this goal was both his first goal of the season and the first goal in the game, he was helped by Danny Elser and Kyle Locke.

On the opposite side the Voyageurs Nicolas Dionne, the recently named Voyageurs captain, was able to pot the equalizer with assistance by Zach Wilkie and Xavier Couture.

The second period started off rapidly but not in favour of the home team as the Ridgebacks were able to score just 1:35 and 5:53 into the second by Austin Eastman and Josh Maguire.

A valiant effort was put forward by the Vee's after falling down by two scores and it started with Jacob Smith fourteen minutes into the second. He was helped by Richard Therrian and Marc-Antoine Gagnon

The second period ended in a 3-2 game showing hope for the Voyageurs to potentially tie and or come out with a win but UOIT prevailed and added two more scores onto the game making it a final score of 5-2.

The Voyageurs have some time to bounce back as they play their next game Tuesday October 16th against Nipissing but in the mean time they are playing both Vermont and Cornell away on October 11th and October 13th.
