MHKY | Voyageurs Ground Ravens, Push Win Streak to 3

The Laurentian men's hockey team started their two game series against both of the Ottawa universities this Friday evening on a very snowy Sudbury night.

The Vees came out of the locker room with the same energy that has brought them on their two game and eleven goal win streak.

It did not take long for the Vees to put themselves into gear as Daniel LePage forced a turnover off a Carleton Ravens defender while applying pressure deep in the offensive zone. LePage would be the first player to score in the game with his unassisted goal just eight minutes into the first.

The Vees carried that energy into the rest of the period as just six minutes later Nicolas Dionne took the offensive reins and pushed the puck up the full sheet of ice and driving the net but his line mate Richard Therrian would be the one awarded with the goal, giving the Vees a 2-0 lead.

The second period was a very action packed period for both the Ravens and the Vees. Dionne extended his point streak as he managed to pull off an impressive hand eye coordination stunt as he batted a loose puck out of the air and into the net, giving the Vees one more goal and adding to their lead making it 3-0.

A Ravens offensive push ensued in the second period bringing them behind by just one goal. Jared Steege was the Raven who put them back onto the board and giving the Ravens some offensive hope.

The Ravens then added another one late in the second period as Brogan O'Brein was able to score an unassisted powerplay goal and the second period would close out at a 3-2 Voyageurs lead.

A tense third period ensued as the Ravens had a major offensive push that Voyageurs goaltender, Michael Giugovaz, would be able to fend off and would end the night with a total of 33 saves and providing the Vees with a win.

The Vees extend their win streak to three, their longest in three years. They will take the confidence into tomorrows game against a Ottawa Gee-Gee team that has lost only one game in a shootout.
