MHKY | Paladins Down Voyageurs

The Laurentian Voyageurs Mens hockey team played against the Royal Military College on a Saturday night game to finalize the two game series on this January weekend.

The Voyageurs had lost their first game in the weekend series to the Queens Gaels 3-1 and therefore needed a win against RMC to split the weekend at least 1-1.

Mackenzie Savard has stepped up for the Voyageurs due to injury and has faced two tough opponents, he would make twenty-eight saves of thirty-two shots from RMC. One of those shots would be the first to score in this very intense match up as David Savery would beat Mackenzie Savard just two minutes in.

The Voyageurs would not let RMC have the lead for long as just eight minutes later Russel Nowry would score the equalizer with the help of Jayme Forslund and Jarret Meyer for his second goal of the season on the power-play.

Unfortunately RMC would break the tie in this first stanza as Bennet Huber would score his first goal of the season on the power-play just four minutes after the Voyageur equalizer.

The second period would held only one goal and it was not in the Voyageur column. Liam Murray potted his second goal and tenth point of the season on Savard to extend the lead to 3-1 RMC

The third period scoring action would fall to one goal per team, starting off with Laurentian. Jarret Meyer, the six foot nine towering Voyageur D man would score his second point of the season off a shot stemming from the bottom of the circle and beating Brad Van Schubert.

Meyers goal would bring Laurentian in the reaches by just one goal but RMC would answer back just four minutes later as Alex MacDonald would beat Savard for one last time and make the game a 4-2 match.

The Voyageurs would finish the weekend 0-2 and will regroup to play the Nipissing Lakers on Tuesday January 29th at Laurentian's "School Day" Game.
