MHKY | Despite Furious Start, Voyageurs Unable to Tame Gee-Gees

The Laurentian Mens Hockey team played this Friday February 8th evening against the Ottawa Gee-Gees in a hopeful playoff preview.

At this point in the season the Ottawa Gee-Gees were ranked number one in the OUA but had only beat Laurentian by one goal during the previous matchup.

A game packed full of action and as well scoring chances as a total of seven goals were scored in the first period.

The scoring would start off early as Gavin Apperson would find himself battling out front of Anthony Brodeur and eventually tipping Jarret Meyer's shot past an unsuspecting Gee-Gees goaltender.

The Gee-Gees would not take long to respond as just one minute after Mathieu Newcomb would beat Michael Gigouvaz making for a 1-1 game,

The last of the Voyageurs goals would come from Jacob Smith. Smiths first goal would come on the powerplay as Xaiver Couture would set up Smith for a great shooting opportunity where he would beat Brodeur and make for a 2-1 Voyageurs lead. His second goal was fed to him by Richard Therrien and Nicolas Dionne where he would be available for a tap in on Brodeur. Making for a 3-3 game all around.

Unfortunately Ottawa would pot one last goal in the first period and make for a 4-3 game come the end of the first period.

As the win was in the grips of both teams the Garnet and Grey would prevail as they would pot two empty net goals during the Voyageurs last chance push for the lead and eventually make for a 6-3 game in favour of Ottawa.

The Voyageurs will play the second university in the nations capital, the Carleton Ravens tomorrow Saturday February 9th in hopes to stay afloat and clinch the final playoff spot in the OUA.
