MHKY | Powerplay Struggles in Loss to McGill

The Laurentian Voyageurs men's hockey team played their final game in Quebec this weekend against the McGill Redmen. After coming off a win against the Stingers last night the Voyageurs had an opportunity to either come out with four points or split the weekend.

The Voyageurs scoring came in the second period and only twice. Russel Nowry and Brett Jacklin scored two unassisted goals five minutes and fifty-eight seconds in and as well thirteen minutes and ten seconds into the second period.

The Redmen would be operating offensively at with a much higher success rate as they were able to score six times in three frames. Syrydiuk, Talbot-Tassi, and Orr would all be accredited a goal, Jordan-Ty Fournier would be score three. The Redmen opened up a 2-0 lead within the first six minutes of the game, then Fournier's first would make it 3-0 five minutes into the second. After Nowry got Laurentian on the board, Orr's goal twenty-seven seconds later would chase starting goalie Brayden Lachance from the net.

The Redmen took the match 6-2 and sent the Voyageurs back to Sudbury with one win and a loss on the weekend. Special teams were again the difference. McGill would go 2/5 on the powerplay, and Laurentian went 0/3 while also giving up two short-handed goals.

The Voyageurs wrap up their 7-game road trip with a Wednesday night game at Nipssing, then return home to play the Carleton Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees this upcoming weekend in Sudbury.
