MLAX | Badgers Offense Too Much for the Voyageurs

After an exciting back and forth contest on Saturday afternoon, the Voyageurs men’s lacrosse team were back on the field Sunday as they welcomed the Brock Badgers to LU Stadium to close out their home opening weekend.

The Badgers opened up the scoring early, but were quickly answered by two Voyageur goals courtesy of Patrick Fitzhenry and Sam Postma. The two teams traded goals two minutes later until the Brock offense shifted into high gear and netted an unanswered seven goals to end the first quarter up 9-3.

The Badgers offense would continue the onslaught as another ten goals found the back of the net in the second quarter while Postma netted his second and third goals of the game for the Voyageurs. Heading into the half, the Voyageurs found themselves down 19-5.

After an early Badger goal in the third quarter, the Voyageurs seemed to get back on track as they answered with three straight tallies, courtesy of Matt Smith and Mike Kussman (2). However, the Badgers would follow suit with 8 unanswered goals to end the game with a final score of 28-8.

Fitzhenry (1 goal, 3 assists), Postma (3 goals) and Kussman (2 goals, 1 assist) led the offense for the Voyageurs while Xavier Beneteau and Jake Kelly split time in net.

The Voyageurs will look to rebound from a tough opening weekend as they travel to McMaster this Friday to take on the Marauders at Alumni Field, game time set for 8pm.
