MSOC | Voyageurs Grab a Well-Earned Victory

The Voyageurs opened weekend play against the Trent Excalibur (1-4), earning their third win of the season, 6-2.

Laurentian opened the match strong scoring their first goal within two minutes of kickoff. Trent answered shortly after with one of their first chances of the game. However, LU quickly answered with a second goal on their ensuing attack. Trent keeper Ellis was forced to exit the game with what looked like a head injury on the play.

Following a period of Voyageurs dominance in which they netted two additional goals (one off a penalty kick), the momentum began to shift in Trent's favour. Despite strong defense from Laurentian, Trent nabbed a goal off a tip from a free kick near the box.

The Voyageurs closed the half with their fifth goal of the match off a nice deek and kick from Dean Pizolinas in the box.

Apart from Laurentian's sixth goal, the second half was an equal affair. The final 45 minutes saw a balance of Voyageur and Excalibur attacks and good defensive stances, with each team having equal opportunities to add to their goal totals.

Ezzard and Wilkes notched two goals each in the Voyageurs' winning effort over Trent.

The Voyageurs close out the weekend's action tomorrow at 2:15pm (LU Soccer Field) in a match against the UOIT Ridgebacks who currently hold a 2-3-1 record in OUA play.

Laurentian University's Department of Athletics is home to 23 varsity sports teams. The Voyageurs decorated history of pride and tradition includes 63 provincial championships as well as 10 national championships in 54 years of competition.
