MSOC | Voyageurs Draw 1-1 in Final Seconds

The Voyageurs snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat on Saturday as they scored an equalizing goal in the dying minutes of the game to earn a point against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.

Both teams were on even footing throughout the match. Ball possession, shots on goal, corner kicks, saves and even fouls accumulated were similar between the two teams. Consequently, neither would be able to solve the other's defense in the first half.

But, the second half was much different with respect to scoring than the first. In the 60th minute, Jean Paul Ajala-Alexis scored on a breakaway to give the Ridgebacks the first lead of the match. The Voyageurs would then push to score an equalizer but their efforts went in vain. It was not until injury time well past the the 90th minute when a long throw in toward the penalty box found the cleats of Nick Esperanca in front of the net who would make no mistake in scoring the equalizer and lifting the slumping spirits of Voyageurs fans.

"I was just ready. I was keyed in until the very last point.  Was just ready to hit the ball" said Espernaca about his mental state before scoring the equalizer.

The Voyageurs are now on the road when they take on the third best team in the country, the Carleton Ravens on September 15. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 15 pm.
