SWIM | Voyageurs and Warriors Pull Ahead of the Pack
The Laurentian Voyageurs had a strong showing in the pool on day 1 of the deBray/Fairweather Divisional Swimming Championships on Saturday. The men's team saw Matt Schouten qualify for the U Sport Championships in the 50m freestyle and the women's team are in a great position to retain their team title.
Schouten highlighted the night for the men with his 23.06 second swim in the 50m freestyle to book his ticket to Sherbrooke at the end of February. Other strong performances on the men's side included a 1-2 finish in the 50m back by Zach Shalovsky and Schouten, a first place finish in the 200m free by Christopher Eastick and a 1-2 finish in the 200m backstroke by Samuel Boily-Dufour and Shalovsky.
On the women's side, the Voyageurs started off the night with a 1-2 finish in the 200m freestyle relay, followed up by a 1st place finish by Riley Konrad in the 400m IM while rookie Cassandra Drescher grabbed first place in the 200m freestyle.
As a team, the men currently sit in second with 331 points, trailing Waterloo by 159.5 points. On the women's side, the Voyageurs lead the way with 519.5 points, 232 points ahead of the Warriors. Rounding out the Divisionals are men's and women's teams from Queen's, Laurier, Brock, Carleton and York.
The second and final day of competition gets started in the Jeno Tihanyi Olympic Gold Pool at 12pm with the 200m Medley Relays.
