XC | Women 10th, Men 12th at OUA Championships

Laurentian University Women's and Men's Cross-Country Running Teams returned to London, ON this past weekend for the Ontario University (OUA) Championships. Competing over eight kilometres on the Thames Valley Golf Course, the Voyageur Women placed 10th and the Men 12th in the overall team standings.

The women's team was led by fourth year health promotion student Angela Mozzon (Sudbury) who placed 37th overall in a time of 32:58.   Second-year nursing student, Kristen Mrozewski (Sudbury) placed 48th in 33:28. Third year adventure leadership student Sarah Booth (Peterborough) placed 51st in 33:42. Third year biomedical biology student Meredith Kusnierczyk (Sudbury), placed 57th in 34:40.  Fourth year kinesiology student, Ashley Valentini (Oshawa) placed 68th in 36:27.  Fourth year sport and physical education student, Abbey Maillet (Dundas) placed 76th in 37:21.  Pascale Gendron (Toronto), who had led the team throughout the season, was unfortunately unable to finish the race due to an injury.

The men's team was once again paced by rookie SPAD student, Seamus Doherty (Acton) who placed 40th overall in a time of 26:55.   Fourth year nursing student, Nick Lambert (Elliot Lake) placed 72nd in 29:02. Second year health promotion student Patrick Leroux (Wingham) placed 77th in 29:52. Fourth year SPAD student Cameron Date (Haileybury) placed 84th in 30:17.  First year nursing student Brandon Radey (Sudbury) placed 85th in 30:27. First year mining engineering student Travis Annett (Sudbury) placed 90th in 31:14. First year law and justice student, Kevin Yuan (China), placed 93rd in 31:43.

"That was a breakout performance by Angela today", noted Assistant Coach, Dick Moss. "Her progression over four years with our squad has been remarkable.  Her time today is almost four minutes faster than she ran in her rookie season. She has worked really hard, so it is great to see her running so well."

Regarding Doherty's impressive rookie campaign on the men's squad, Head Coach Darren Jermyn commented, "Seamus has really established himself at the OUA level this year.  He was the fifth best rookie finisher in the field today and set a new personal best time over 8 kilometres.  I'm very proud of how both squads handled themselves throughout a challenging season and how they performed today."

This marks the end of varsity cross-country season for the Voyageurs.  They will now turn their attention to the 2022-23 Indoor Track and Field season.
