WBB | Voyageurs End Pre-Season with 2-1 Weekend at Brock

The Voyageurs women's basketball team had their final pre-season tune-up this weekend as they travelled to St. Catharines to take on the Brock Badgers, Western Mustangs and Nipissing Lakers.

In Friday's battle against the Badgers, the Voyageurs came out of the gate strong taking a 16-6 lead into the second quarter. The Badgers clawed their way back into the game in the second with the Voyageurs heading into the half only up by six. The teams were fairly even throughout the second half, but the Voyageurs had the upper hand for the remainder of the game, taking the victory, 59-48. Second-year Voyageur, Mackenzie Robinson enjoyed her first double-double of the pre-season, chipping in with 16 points and 11 rebounds in 37 minutes while first-year Kayla Deschateletes added an additional 13 points.

Saturday proved to be the tale of a poor second quarter as the Voyageurs led the scoring totals in the first, third and fourth quarters. However, a 24-2 second quarter by the Mustangs seemed too big a deficit for the Voyageurs to overcome as they took the loss, 56-42. L'Ashante Henry was the top point getter for the Voyageurs as she raked in 11 points and seven rebounds in 33 minutes.

The squad got back on the right foot in Sunday's match-up against the Lakers as they pounced on their northern rivals, taking the victory 67-38. The Voyageurs led on the scoreboard in every quarter, which included a 30-10 opening half. Emily Tinnes was effective in 17 minutes on the court as she collected a game-high 21 points, while Robinson chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds.

The Voyageurs will now prepare for the beginning of the OUA regular season as they are set to host the Western Mustangs and Windsor Lancers in their home-opener on November 11th, game times set for 6pm & 8pm at the Ben Avery Gym.
