WBB | Mustangs Outrun Voyageurs in Season Opener

The Ben Avery gym was buzzing Friday night as the Laurentian Voyageurs Women's Basketball team opened their season against the Western Mustangs.

The first quarter was action-packed as the teams battled it out, matching each other evenly. Adriane Bruni lead the way for Laurentian, scoring 6 points. Tinnes also stood out on the court with a great steal, and incredible passing. With a second left in the first, Tinnes took a free throw scoring two points to tie it up at the end of the quarter.

The second period saw the intensity level up, with another hard fought battle between the Vees and the Mustangs. Despite a strong offense from Laurentian, Western was able to take the lead at the end of the second quarter, with a score of 38-32.

Tensions were building in the third quarter as the Vees and Mustangs matched each other point for point. While the Mustangs were able to keep the lead for most of the third quarter, the Vees kept it close, never letting more than a few points come between them.

Going into the fourth with the Mustangs only one point ahead of the Vees with a score of 49-50, Laurentian was quick to bring the heat. Stealing the lead, the Vees battled hard to keep ahead of the Mustangs who were just as eager to regain their lead. In the final minutes, Western was able to steal back their lead, winning the game 72-64.

The Voyageurs will be back in action tomorrow night as they take on Windsor at 6pm. Keep up to date with the Voyageurs at www.luvoyageurs.com and by following @LUVoyageurs on Twitter.
