WBB | Voyageurs Unable to Overcome First Quarter Deficit

After a tough first quarter in which they were outscored 29-14 by their opponent, the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees, the Voyageurs needed a comeback - and that's exactly what they brought in the second. Winning the second quarter and beginning to close the Gee-Gees' lead entering the half point mark, the Voyageurs were hopeful for a comeback. However, even after a tight second half, Laurentian was unable to overcome the initial deficit ultimately falling to the Gee-Gees 67-59.

Though the team was able to get up nearly identical numbers of shots from the field and the free throw line, shots were just not falling for the Voyageurs who shot 34.4% from the field compared to the Gees-Gees slight improvement of 38.1%. An additional area of weakness for the Voyageurs was again rebounding, as they were out-boarded by the Gee-Gees 51-33.

Top contributor for Laurentian was seasoned guard Emily Tinnes who led all scorers in the match with 20 points. L'Ashante Henry of the Voyageurs likewise had a notable performance, earning a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Top scorer for the Gee-Gees was Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu with 17 points.

The Voyageurs will have a short week at home to recuperate and head back on the road where they'll take on Queen's University next Friday and York University the following evening. Tip off for both games is 6pm.
