WBB | Voyageurs Stifle Lancers

The Laurentian Voyageurs women's basketball team ended their final road trip of 2022 with a split series in Southwestern Ontario after defeating the Windsor Lancers 72-53.

The first quarter was dominated by the Voyageurs, both offensively and defensively, picking apart the Lancer press and denying them of any true scoring opportunities when having to defend. Their main avenue of attack was the three point shot, hitting 4 of their 5 attempts in the quarter while holding the Lancers to just 21% shooting which meant they had a sizable lead of 25-16 after the first 10 minutes of play.

In the second, it was more of the same as the three point shot continued to fall and the defense for the Voyageurs was coming up with stops again and again. The lead continued to grow and, as the buzzer sounded to mark halftime, the Voyageurs had their biggest halftime lead of the season, up 45-27.

The second half was all about keeping Windsor at arm's length. The scoring slowed down but this was a game all about strong defense as Windsor finished with a three point shooting percentage of 19% and an overall shooting percentage of only 20%. The Voyageurs never let Windsor get the game back down to a single digit lead in the second half and the Voyageurs picked up a much needed win by a final score of 72-53

The game's key performers were Helena Lamoureux with a game-high 15 points and eight rebounds along with Emilie Lafond with 10 points and eight rebounds and Audrey-Anne Lebreche who pitched in with 10 points off the bench.

The Voyageurs improve to 2-4 on the season and return home next weekend to face off against the Toronto Varsity Blues and the Toronto Metropolitan University Bold on Friday and Saturday night.
