WCURL | Voyageurs on Both Ends of the Spectrum on Day 2 of U SPORTS Championships

It was a tale of night and day for the Voyageurs on day 2 of the U SPORTS Curling Championships in Thunder Bay.  After falling to Dalhousie 10-1 in the afternoon draw, the Voyageurs bounced back with a 9-2 victory over UNB in the evening draw.

Against the Dalhousie Tigers, the Voyageurs could not get anything going offensively.  After scoring a deuce in the first, the Tigers manufactured steals of a single point in ends 3, 4, 5 and 6 before stealing 4 in the 7th to go up 10-0.  The Voyageurs finally got on the board in the 8th end with a single but that would be as close as they would get, falling 10-1 to the AUS squad and moving their record to 1-1.

Looking to bounce back in the evening session, the Voyageurs started the game against UNB with hammer and they made the most of it.  After blanking the first end, Krysta Burns skipped her side to a deuce in the 2nd end and the team kept their foot on the gas from there, stealing 1 in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th.  The Varsity Reds finally got on the board with a single in the 6th and a steal of 1 in the 7th.  Not wanting to leave anything to chance, the Voyageurs fired back with 3 in the 8th, which led to handshakes and a 9-2 final score.

After two days, the Voyageurs are currently in a 3-way tie for second with a 2-1 record.  Tomorrow they face a pair of familiar OUA foes.  At 2pm they face the host Lakehead Thunderwolves (2-1) who handed Laurentian one of their two loses at the OUA Championships and then at 7pm the Voyageurs go toe-to-toe with the Ryerson Rams (1-2) who had to settle of silver at the OUA Championships.  Get end-by-end updates of all games at curling.ca
