WCURL | Despite Up and Down Day, Voyageurs Still Tied for 2nd After Draw 5

Day 3 of the U SPORTS Curling Championships went pretty much the way of day 2 for the Laurentian Women; a pair of big scores, one win and one loss.  After opening the day with an 11-2 victory over Lakehead, the Voyageurs fell 12-4 to Ryerson in the evening draw.

Everything was going the way of the Voyageurs in the afternoon draw against the host, Lakehead Thunderwolves.  After opening with a steal of 3 in the first end, the Laurentian squad would steal 2 more in the fourth end and 3 in the 5th end to take a commanding 8-0 lead into the break.  Lakehead finally got on the board in the sixth with a single but the Voyageurs grabbed 3 more in the seventh and it was handshakes after Lakehead got a single in the eighth.

The evening draw was a much different story for the Blue and Gold, as Ryerson, the OUA Silver medalists, started the game with hammer and turned that into 4 points after the first end.  The Voyageurs responded with a deuce in the second end but the Rams came right back with a single in the third and steal of 2 in the fourth end.  After the Voyageurs got back to back singles, the Rams answered with 2 and 3 points in the seventh and eighth ends, which led to handshakes.

The Voyageurs now find themselves tied with St. FX in 2nd place at 3-2 heading into the final day of the round robin.  They face Alberta at 2pm and the X-Women at 7pm in a game that could very well decide a playoff spot.
