WHKY | Voyageurs Fall Short of Ridgebacks, Lose 4-3

On Sunday afternoon, the Voyageurs women's hockey team came up just short by a score of 4-3 against the UOIT Ridgebacks in their last regular season game of 2016.

The Voyageurs did get off to a good start as they scored the first goal of the game. At 11:39 of the first, Mariah Beckett made a great move in the slot and got a shot off that beat UOIT goalie Briar Hughes. Morgan McCann and MacCauley Carr assisted on Beckett's goal. This would be the only goal of the period, and both teams would head to the dressing room with the Voyageurs leading 10-7 in shots.
The Vees picked right back up where they left off in the second, needing just 23 seconds to increase the lead to two. Jessica Staats scored off a play generated by Taylor Philip and Brooklyn Davis.
The rest of the period was dominated by the Ridgebacks, however, as they scored three straight goals. Natasha Tymcio scored on the powerplay at 5:15, and Chelsea Ball again on the powerplay at 7:10.
The Ridgebacks then took the lead at 9:54 when Samatha Forchielle found the back of the net. Ball would score again late in the third period to give the Ridgebacks a 4-2 lead.
MacAuley Carr would bring the Vees back within one at 18:49, but it was too little too late. The Voyageurs would drop the contest 4-3 and would close up 2016 with a record of 6-6 which puts them in seventh place.
