WHKY | Vees Back in Win Column After Topping Mustangs 3-2

On Saturday afternoon, the Voyageurs women's hockey team beat the Western Mustangs 3-2 in a critical game as the push for the playoffs heats up.

The Mustangs were the first team to get on the board, when Lyndsay Kirkham scored on the power play at 14:55 of the first period. The Vees tied things up before the end of the period though, when Taylor Weber scored from Morgan McCann at 17:22.

The Voyageurs then took their first lead of the game early in the second period on a power play of their own. Sam Morell scored at 3:21 on a play set up by Brooklyn DavisFive minutes later, the Mustangs responded to tie the game off the stick off April Clark who was able to sneak one by Karen Collins and the second period would end with both teams locked at two's.

Early in the third, the Voyageurs gained the lead and would hold onto it for the remainder of the game. After a mad dash down the ice by Taylor Weber, Kennedy Lanktree picked up the loose puck in the Mustangs crease and gave the Vees the go ahead lead. Karen Collins stopped every shot she faced in the third period, backstopping the Vees en route to victory.
The Voyageurs are back in action next weekend when they host Ryerson and Toronto at Countryside Arena.
