WHKY | Morell Overtime Hero Against Varsity Blues

On Saturday afternoon, the Voyageurs women's hockey team beat the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 3-2 in an overtime thriller.

Marie-Pierre Pelissou scored the first goal of the game at 9:18 as she beat Valencia Yordanov to give the Vees a 1-0 lead. Amelie Samson and Elissa Bertuzzi assisted on the play. The Vees goal was the only goal of the period despite Laurentian outshooting U of T 16-9.

The second period so little action until late in the period, despite the Vees outshooting U of T 16-9 again.  Myla McCormick doubled the Voyageurs lead at 18:02 on a play assisted by Bertuzzi and Samson.

The Blues responded in the dying seconds of the period by way of Stephanie Ayres who cut Laurentian's lead in half with 50 seconds left.

The Blues were determined to tie the game and did so early in the third as Jessica Robichaud found a way to beat Karen Collins at 3:03. The remainder of the period would see several chances exchanged both ways but neither team could take the lead and would need overtime.

Samantha Morell wasted little time winning the game for the Voyageurs as she needed just 34 seconds to beat Yordanov and win the game for the Voyageurs. Sara Habal assisted on the overtime winner.

The Voyageurs will look to make it two wins in a row tomorrow as they host Ryerson.
