WHKY | Lions Blank Voyageurs

WHKY | Lions Blank Voyageurs

On Sunday afternoon, the Voyageurs women's hockey team lost 4-0 to the host York Lions in their only contest of the weekend.

The first period was relatively uneventful despite York carrying most of the play in the opening 20 minutes. Neither team was able to score, but Karen Collins stood tall in net for the Vees as Laurentian was outshot 12-4.

The second period was a similar story, however this time the Lions were able to solve Collins and get on the board. Kelsey McHolm was able to beat Collins on the powerplay on one of the 18 shots Collins faced in the second period. McHolm's goal would be the only goal of the second period as Laurentian was outshot in the second 18-6 for a two period total of 30-10.

The Lions powerplay was firing on all cylinders, as McHolm again found the back of the net on the man-advantage, this time at 4:22 of the third period.

The Voyageurs, looking for a last ditch effort to overcome the two-goal deficit, pulled Collins to get an extra-attacker on the ice with just over three minutes remaining.

The Voyageurs were unable to capitalize with the sixth attacker on, and the Lions eventually sent two more pucks into the empty net for a grand total of 4-0.

The Voyageurs have two games remaining before the Christmas break as they travel to Waterloo on Thursday and Windsor on Friday. The Vees will look to head into the Christmas break with some winning momentum.
