WHKY | Voyageurs Snap Losing Skid, Down Lancers

The Laurentian Voyaguers women's hockey team played a thrilling game against the Windsor Lancers this January 13th afternoon.

The Vees were currently on a nine game losing streak coming into this game and coming into this game they were well aware of this possible opportunity too come out of this weekend with a win and a loss.

Taylor Weber the Voyageurs fifth year co-captain started the offensive attack just eight minutes into the first period as she scored her first goal this season. This would be Taylor Weber's 10th goal in her Laurentian career and Abbey Caldwell and Michelle Weaver-Vitale would have the pleasure to assist her milestone.

The second period would be a period of intensity as both goaltenders seemed to be virtually unbeatable. The Voyageurs Shanna Dolighan would be beat just fourteen seconds into the second period by Jessica Gribbon. At first, to fans the Lancer goal would be called a no goal but following up with a video review the call would be reversed.

After the Lancers stroke of luck the match would be tied 1-1 meaning that either team had the possibility to take the match.

The Voyageurs second co-captain Annie Sherdian would beat Molly Jenkins just six minutes after to put her team up by one. Taylor Weber would add her 29th assist in five years and Michelle Weaver-Vitale would pick up her first two points in her inaugural Voyageurs season.

The third period would fall unsuccessful for the Lancers as they were unable to beat the hot Shanna Dolighan and Voyageurs defensive efforts.

The Voyageurs would beat the Lancers 2-1 and finally cut the nine game losing streak into pieces.

The Vees will have two more opportunities for wins come January 18th and 19th against the Ryerson Rams and Toronto Varsity Blues.
