WHKY | Voyageurs Edged Out by Varsity Blues

The Laurentian Voyageurs finished a two game series in Toronto this January 18th and 19th weekend against both the Rams and Varsity Blues.

This January 19th they matched up against the Varsity Blues who have a middle of the pack 9-6 record, compared to the Voyageurs current 5-13.

With only six games left in the Voyageurs season, each matchup up is a crucial game for improving the Vees record.

After an unfortunate Voyageurs checking from behind penalty the Varsity Blues power play went into full attack and were able to beat Shanna Dolighan just thirty-four seconds on the advantage. Kassie Roache scored her eighth goal of the season and gave the Varsity Blues a 1-0 advantage.

The Voyageurs power play unit would answer the Varsity Blues after they gave the Voyageurs a two minute power play nearing the end of the second period. Karissa Hoskin scored her very first OUA goal of her career. Myla McCormick picked up her third assist of the season on the Voyageurs equalizer.

As the common theme tonight was power play goals, the Varsity Blues would pot the final goal of the match on the power play nearing the half way point of the third.

Taylor Trussler was the Blues talent that would beat Shanna Dolighan for the winning goal as she would score her fifth goal and her twelfth point in just sixteen games.

The Varsity Blues would take the match 2-1 in a close game that could have gone either way.

The Voyageurs will take on Western and Windsor January 26th and 27th during the Bell Lets Talk weekend at Countryside Arena.
