WHKY | Voyageurs Send Seniors Out With a Victory

The Laurentian Women's Hockey hosted the Brock Badgers this Sunday February 10th on the Voyageurs 'Senior Day'.

After forcing the first place Guelph Gryphons to overtime and giving up just two goals, the Voyageurs looked to bring that momentum into today's game against the Badgers.

The first period in this match up would be uneventful and leave both the Badgers and Vees at a scoreless tie. The shots would be even for Brock's Jensen Murphy and the Vees' Karen Collins at eight a piece.

The second period was much different for the Vees and Badgers. The Badgers offence scored two goals off a 5-3 and 5-4 opportunities on Karen Collins. Amanda Leradi and Katreena Whiteye would score back to back just one minute apart and give the Badgers a 2-0 lead.

Nearing the end of the second period the Voyageurs rookie Gabby Jex would score her third goal in twenty-three games on the season. Jex's goal would come with just two minutes left in the period and Annie Sheridan would pick up her fourth assist of the year.

The third period would start off as a 2-1 game in favour of the Badgers but it would not take long for the Vees to tie as it took Taylor Weber just forty-six seconds to beat Murphy shoreside as she was breaking into the zone.

This would be Taylor Weber's last home game in her OUA career and her 12th goal and 42nd point in 117 games as a Laurentian Voyageur.

The Voyageurs rookie Gabby Jex would not stay silent for long as just four minutes after the tying goal she would beat Murphy again for a 3-2 Voyageurs lead. Morgan McCann would pick up an assist on Jex's goal.

It would not take long for Morgan McCann, who was as well playing in her last home game in her OUA career to add an insurance goal onto the current Voyageurs 3-2 lead. After being left unattended on a Voyageurs power play McCann would send home a one-timer and pot her 20th goal and 49th point in 94 games as Voyageur.

The Brock Badgers would score one last goal late in the third but unfortunately a little too late. Maggie Spratt-Mallick's goal would result off a puck battle in Karen Collins' crease.

Karen Collins would be awarded a win making for her 14th win out of a total of 37 games she played in as Voyageur.

The Laurentian Women's Hockey team won their last and final home game of the season and will play the York Lions February 16th for the final game of the season.
