WHKY | Voyageurs Lose Defensive Battle With Gaels

The Laurentian Voyageurs women's hockey team started off a back to back set of games against the Queens Gaels and Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. The fist opponent would be the Gaels November 22nd in Sudbury.

The Gaels placed fourth in the OUA in the 2018-19 with a record of 14-9, the 2019-20 season for the Gaels is 3-3-4. The Gaels are 10-1-1 all-time against the Voyageurs.

The Gaels would be the first team to score beating Shanna Dolighan eight minutes and sixteen seconds into the second period, the Gaels were awarded a powerplay opportunity and as well a rebound down low on Dolighan which Hailey Wilson was able to shovel in.

The Gaels would be awarded another opportunity early in the third period. Just two minutes in Emma Mckinght was waiting near Dolighan's post and was readily available to tap in a rebound, making for a 2-0 lead for the Gaels.

The Voyageurs had a lot of ground to make up as time was winding down quickly in the third frame. After an offensive push by the Vees, Regan Toltesi would send a shot from the point onto Arsenault which was deflected onto the stick of Natalie Lamarche, making for an easy scoring opportunity. Julia Giannitopoulos and Gabby Jex would pick up the assist. The Vees would pull the goalie in the last couple minutes, but were unable to find the equalizer.

The Gaels would prevail in tonights matchup taking the game 2-1. Arsenault would make twenty-two saves on the night, Dolighan made twenty-one saves. The Vees play Ontario Tech tomorrow at 4:00 in Sudbury for an opportunity to split the weekend.
