WHKY | Voyageurs Fall in Overtime

The Laurentian Voyageurs women's hockey team played their final game of the weekend against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks this afternoon.

The Ridgebacks are having a less then favourable season with a total of just one win in regulation twelve losses and oneovertime win. The Voyageurs won the previous meeting 5-0 November 23rd, but today's contest was low scoring, with just three goals scored.

The Ridgebacks would gain their second overtime win tonight with two goals on Danielle Toland amongst the thirty-four saves she would make on the night. Mia Rodgers and Natalie Wozney would be accredited the goals for the Ridgebacks. After Rodgers tied the game in the last five minutes, Wozney won it with a powerplay goal 2:44 into overtime.

The Voyageurs would not let Briar Hughes go home with a shutout as Payton Bray would open the scoring for the Voyageurs with a short-handed goal 1:43 into the second. The Voyageurs outshot their opponent for the second straight game, recording 40 shots.

In the first period, Toland had to stop a penalty shot after Julia Giannitsopoulos was penalized for closing her hand on the puck in the crease. Wozney took the penalty shot, but Toland shut her down with a pad save.

The Vees end the weekend with a win and a loss, but most importantly three points. They will regroup before a rivalry matchup at Nipissing next weekend.
