The Laurentian Voyageurs women's hockey team travelled to their northern rival tonight to play the Nipissing Lakers in the OUA Marquee Matchup and as well as a matchup in the annual 705 Challenge Cup.
The Voyageurs would be defeated offensively in the first frame as the Lakers Dominco siblings. Malory and Maria Dominco would both pot one goal on Danielle Toland. The Voyageurs were outshot 13-5 in the period.
The Lakers would remain dominant offensively as both Derenoski and Hayhurst would beat Toland for two more goals, with Derenoski's goal being a shorthanded tally two and a half minutes into the period. Chantelle Sandquist would receive a win and shutout for the Lakers, stopping all 19 Voyageur shots. Toland stopped 21 of 25 shots before being replaced by Shanna Dolighan for the third period, and Dolighan would stop all 7 shots she faced. The win gives the Lakers a 6-3 lead in the 705 Challenge Cup with just 3 games remaining (a men's and women's basketball game, and a men's hockey game).
The Voyageurs will have the rest of the weekend off but will resume next weekend at home against Waterloo and Laurier.
