ROW | Chase Leads Way At CURC's

A trio of Voyageurs were in Victoria, BC over the weekend for the Canadian University Rowing Championships and walked away with some fantastic results, highlighted by a bronze medal for Hayley Chase.

Chase qualified for the Women's Single A final with the second fastest time in the field, clocking a time of 7:13.48.  In the final, Chase could not quite keep pace with the boats from the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria, having to settle for the bronze medal in a time of 7:39.08.  

Abbey Maillet also dawned the blue and gold for the Voyageurs at the Championships, qualifying for the Women's Lightweight Single A final in her first national championship with a time of 7:36.17.  In the final, Maillet rowed a strong race, finishing in fifth with a time of 8:15.42.

Rounding out the trio was Charles Alexander in the men's single.  Alexander missed out on a spot in the A final by just over 2 seconds and was forced to race in the B final.  In that final, Alexander set aside his disappointment and powered his way to a victory in 6:59.19 for a seventh place finish.

At the conclusion of the Championship, Chase was named the Canadian University Rowing Female Athlete of the Year, a recognition of the incredible year she had, both on the water and in her commitment to the sport through her volunteering and community involvement.
