WSOC | Voyageurs Play to Scoreless Draw

SUDBURY, ON - In their first home game in almost a month, the Voyageurs women's soccer  team looked to pick up valuable late season points against a formidable Carleton squad. To add to the importance of this match, the Voyageurs needed a victory or tie to break a fourth place tie with Queen's in the OUA's East division.

On paper, these two teams match up fairly evenly, especially on offense with LU recording 22 goals on the campaign and 21 for Carleton. This was evident in the first half, as neither team was able to get on the score sheet or take command of the game.

The second half continued the trend of even play. While both squads had a higher quality of chances, neither was able to capitalize in the end. Laurentian's best chance came in the dying minutes as Brianne Rodrigue got her foot on a ball in close to the keeper. The ball struck the post and appeared to cross the line for a late game winner but ultimately rolled past the net for a no-goal.

Despite the tie, the single point puts the Voyaguers one point ahead of Queen's for sole possession of fourth place in the OUA's East division.

The Voyageurs' next match is a home game against the 8-4-1 Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday, October 16th.
