Laurentian Voyageurs Earn a Thrilling Victory Over the Nipissing Lakers
The Voyageurs Women's Soccer team were victorious in a thrilling 2-1 away match versus the Nipissing Lakers, thanks to two late goals. After watching the Men's squad reclaim the Riley Gallo Cup, the Women's team matched them by sweeping the Cup in thrilling fashion.
Following a scoreless first half, the Lakers struck first shortly after the second half kickoff, and held the lead for much of the half.
In the 75th minute, the away squad netted their first goal, as Catherine Rocca levelled the score. Unsatisfied with only coming away with one point, the Vess added a goal in the dying minutes of the match, with Megan Chiovitti tallying her second of the season to ensure the Voyageurs secured the three points and a sweep of the Riley Gallo Cup.
The victory snaps a three game losing streak and brings the Voyageurs record back to .500 at 5-5.
The Voyageurs are back in action next weekend in an away meeting with Trent Excalibur (2-9). In their last meeting, the Vees ran away with the match at home to the tune of a 7-0 victory.
