WSOC | Voyageurs Shutout by Gee-Gees

Sunday afternoon saw a hard-fought game between the Laurentian Voyageurs Women’s Soccer team and the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees. The Gee-Gees had the home turf advantage and defended it, despite a dedicated effort from the Voyageurs.

The first half of the game was a close match as neither team scored, despite lots of attempts from both teams. Laurentian goalie Caitlin McNamara faced 8 shots on goal in the first half, and saved all of them, keeping the teams tied at 0-0.

The second half saw more action with Sophie Curtis of the Gee-Gees scoring, followed by a goal by fellow Gee-Gee Katherine Bearne to make the score 2-0. The Voyageurs pushed hard but could not answer these goals, and lost 2-0 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees.

Coach Rob Gallo commented, “Two corners did us in, in a 2-0 loss to Ottawa. We worked very hard but were punished on our mistakes.  We have 7 games to go to turn this around and we will”.

Stay tuned to see if the Voyageurs can turn it around in their next game, as they face off against their rivals the Nipissing Lakers at 2:15pm in North Bay.
