WSOC | Voyageurs Fall to Queen's

The Laurentian Voyageurs women's soccer team wrapped up their weekend in Kingston as they took on the Queen's Gaels on Sunday afternoon.  Despite a solid team effort, the team couldn't find the break through they needed, falling 2-0 to the Gaels.

The Voyageurs went into the game a defensive mindset, knowing their best chance at victory with a skilled Gaels team was to lock down their end first and foremost.  It was a strategy that worked well until the 43rd minute of the game when Queen's Tara Bertram who found herself the recipient of a fortuitous bounce off of a cross and slide the ball home for the 1-0 lead.

The second half saw the Voyageurs press a little more, needing to find the tying goal.  Despite a few chances off set pieces, Queen's Jenny Wolever added an insurance marker in the 85th minute to seal the game.

Despite being outshot 10-1, coach Gallo was happy with hus team effort, saying, "The girls were well organized and played a very entertaining game today.  Our structure and discipline was very good."

The Voyageurs move to 2-2 on the season and return home to face their northern rival, the Nipissing Lakers, next Sunday, Sept. 11th with a 12pm kickoff.

Laurentian University's Department of Athletics is home to 23 varsity sports teams. The Voyageurs decorated history of pride and tradition includes 62 provincial championships as well as 10 national championships in 54 years of competition.
