WSOC | Voyageurs Lose Late to Ridgebacks

The Voyageurs women's soccer team finished their weekend series at home with a tough loss to the 6-1-1 UOIT Ridgebacks on Sunday afternoon, losing 2-1.

Laurentian put the pressure on early, as Megan Ferguson pounced on a lose ball in the goal to notch her first of the season. Both teams would trade shots on goal in the first, but the Voyageurs held the 1-0 lead into the half.

The Ridgebacks came out shooting in the second half and managed to capitalize in the 73rd minute on a goal by Nicole Zajac. After that, they kept the pressure on the Voyageurs and netted a go-ahead goal in the 84th minute by Katherin Koehler-Grassau. The Voyageurs fought hard for control of the ball late in the game but came up short, managing just one shot on goal in the late stages of the game.

Goalkeeper, Dina Mandolesi, denied seven Ridgeback shots keeping her team in the game, including four key saves in the second half.

The Voyageurs look ahead to this Friday as they travel to Carleton University to take on the Ravens at Keith Harris Stadium, game time is set for 5pm.
