WSOC | Voyageurs Blanked by Rams

WSOC | Voyageurs Blanked by Rams

The Voyageurs had a tough outing on Saturday afternoon against the Ryerson Rams as they lost by a score of 3-0.

The Rams were the better team as they dominated most aspects of the match. One jaw-dropping statistic from their victory were the number of shots as the Rams outshot the Voyageurs by a margin of 15-5. Gillian Rossi opened the scoring in the 38th minute with an assist from Chloe Zomparelli. And, just seven minutes later, in the 45th minute, Zomparelli with an assist from Maria Poveda. The first half would then come to an end with the Rams up two goals to nothing.

The Voyageurs had a better half in the second as they recorded more shots than in the first but were unable to solve the Rams' defence. The Rams would add another in the 68th minute when Katherine Sollbach scored on an assist from Alessia Carvalho.

This loss puts the Voyageurs playoff hopes in a very simple situation. With the Toronto Varisty Blues winning against Nippising today, they have now replaced the Laurentian Voyageurs for that sixth and final playoff spot. The Vees now control their own fate as their final regular season match is against the aforementioned Toronto Varsity Blues and a win would see them through to the playoffs. This sense of urgency was perfectly describe by head coach Roberto Gallo when he said: "Urgency….We have it left it to the last game vs U of T. Win and we are in and lose we are done."

The Voyageurs will travel to the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday and kickoff is scheduled for 3 pm. The match will be broadcasted live on OUA.tv.
