WSOC | Voyageurs Add Five to the Fold

Laurentian Voyageurs women's soccer advisor, Rob Gallo, is happy to announce the commitment of five players for the 2019-20 season.

"I am excited for this class to join the Voyageurs family," said Gallo. "My staff and I have worked hard to bring a competitive class to Laurentian that will help us in the transition of our program to new leadership. This class brings talent to the roster that will give us depth in every position. We are excited for the passion and competitiveness that every player is bringing to the Voyageurs. These players are tough young ladies that possess the mental and physical toughness that you need to win in the OUA. Most importantly, they are a wonderful group of people that will continue to add to our great current group of student-athletes."

Following is a list of the incoming student-athletes, complete with their hometown, position and former team.

Cassandra Armstrong – Tottenham, ON – Forward – Oakville Soccer Club/Banting Memorial High School

"Cassandra is an athletic wing player that has the pace and energy to provide attacking support. She possesses a powerful left foot shot. Her ability to take players on off the dribble and score goals from a variety of situations will make her someone that competes for time immediately," said Gallo.

Makayla Forrest – Bowmanville, ON – Forward – Durham Soccer Academy/St Stephens Secondary School

"She comes from a high level club where next level tactics and technical proficiency are stressed at every opportunity. Makayla has the ability to make a big impact in our program right away. I look for her to come in and insert her energy and competitive mentality from day one," said Gallo.

Megan Short – Richmond Hill, ON – Defender – Aurora Soccer Club/Langstaff Secondary School

"Megan is a tenacious defender; she has great vision for the game and reads the game very well as a player in the back line.  She also has a great comfort level on the ball and does well to distribute under pressure when building from the back. Megan has the ability to provide options and depth to our back four this season," said Gallo.

Clare Dasek – Tottenham, ON – Midfield – Oakville Soccer Club/ Banting Memorial High School

"Clare is a solid holding mid player. She is athletic and skillful with a lot of potential to grow as a player. She is a hard worker with a passion for the game that will help add depth to our roster. I am excited to see how Clare develops as a player once she is training in the next level environment every day," said Gallo.

Jocelyne Way – Newmarket, ON – Goaltender – Oakville Soccer Club/École Secondaire Catholique Renaissance

"Jocelyne is a great addition to our Voyageurs family. She has great potential to develop into a solid goalkeeper in the OUA. She is a good shot stopper and does well commanding the box, getting off her line and has the skill set to help us right away. She has a great presence that will help lead our defense. I love Jocelyne's mentality and competitive approach to training and games. Jocelyne gets better every day and works incredibly hard," said Gallo.

"As student-athletes, this group, along with our current players, will embrace the responsibility of representing Laurentian not only on the field, but also in the classroom and in the community," concluded Gallo.

The quintet of future Voyageurs will pull on the blue and gold and begin their post-secondary journey when training camp opens up in August.  The 2019 season kicks off on Saturday, August 31st, when both the women and men head to Nipissing.
