SWIM | Voyageurs Women Win 4th Consecutive Divisional Title, Men 2nd

The Voyageurs' men's and women's swim teams were in St. Catharines over the weekend competing at the deBray Divisional Championships against Brock, Carleton, Laurier, Queen's, Waterloo and York.  The teams did exceptionally well, coming home with a number of individual medals, relay medals and, for the women, a fourth consecutive divisional banner.

Day 1 started off with some fireworks as both of the women's 200 freestyle A and B relay teams touched the wall in 1:49.11, good enough for a tie for 2nd.  Not to be outdone, the men's 200 freestyle A relay team touched the wall in 1st place with a time of 1:33.85.

The women's team continued their strong showing on day 1, reaching the podium eight more times, including three first place finishes.  Riley Konrad, the defending OUA champion, won the 400 IM in a time of 4:59.10, Francesca Zammit-Maempel won the 100 butterfly in 1:03.17 and Natalie Lefebvre won the 800 freestyle in 9:10.31.

The men would also see an additional eight podium finishes on the opening day.  Matt Schouten led the way with first place finishes in 100 butterfly (56.78) and the 50 freestyle (22.74).

As good as day 1 was, day 2 was just one step better for the Voyageurs the women would have nine individual podium finishes and one relay podium finish, once again led by Konrad, who won the 200 IM (2:20.25) and the 200 butterfly (2:26.96), and Lefebvre, who won the 400 freestyle (4:26.59).

The men had an equally impressive second day as they had seven individual podium finishes and two relay podium finishes.  Schouten once again led the pack in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.65 and the 100 freestyle, posting a 51.15.  Also standing on top of the podium was Shaun Gordon who won the 50 butterfly in 26.09.

After all was said and done, the women's team out-paced the Waterloo Warriors to the tune of 69 points to grab their 4th consecutive Divisional title.  The men tightened the gap but fell some 171 points back of Waterloo to settle for second as a team.
