XC | Women 7th, Men 12th at Bayfront Open

Laurentian's Cross-Country Running team completed their regular season this past weekend at the McMaster Bayfront Open in Hamilton.

The race was the final opportunity for the Voyageurs to compete prior to the OUA Championships later this month in London.  In the overall team scores, the LU women placed 7th and the men placed 12th.

Continuing her solid season, 5th year education student Pascale Gendron (Toronto) again led the women's team by placing 17th in the 105-woman field.  Gendron's time over the twisty, eight kilometer course was 30 minutes and 5 seconds. Following Gendron was second-year nursing student Kristen Mrozewski (Sudbury), who placed 49th in 32:03. Fourth-year health promotion student, Angela Mozzon (Sudbury) placed 51st in 32:07. Sarah Booth (Peterborough) placed 66th in 32:50 and rounding out Laurentian's scoring was Meredith Kusnierczyk (Sudbury), who placed 76th in 33:10. Also competing for Laurentian were Ashley Valentini (Oshawa), 95th in 35:55 and Abbey Maillet (Dundas), 98th in 36:19.

For the fourth consecutive competition, the LU men were led by rookie Seamus Doherty (Georgetown) who placed 63rd in the 128-man field. Doherty covered the eight kilometer course in 26 minutes and 58 seconds. Also scoring for Laurentian were Cameron Date (Haileybury), 94th in 28:38; Nicholas Lambert (Elliot Lake), 99th in 28:54; Kevin Yuan (China), 104th, 29:14; and Patrick Leroux (Wingham), 110th in 29:38.  Other Laurentian finishers included Travis Annett (Sudbury), 111th, 29:49; Cameron Heinz (Hunstville), 112th, 29:51; Keegan Lockley (Petawawa), 117th, 30:11; and Hayden Ring (Oshawa), 125th, 29:59.

"Kristin and Angela had excellent races today", commented Head Coach, Darren Jermyn.  "Meredith also continues to improve so we are definitely coming into form at the right time.  The women will likely be ranked 8th going into the OUA Championships but we'll definitely be looking for a higher place finish. On the men's side, it was great to have Cameron Date back racing today after working his way back from a summer injury."

The Vees will next compete at the OUA Championships hosted by Western University on October 29th.
