Quintet of Voyageurs Named All-Stars

A quintet of Voyageurs were recognized as OUA All-Stars this week across the sports of men’s soccer, women’s soccer and baseball.

The OUA named the men’s soccer all-stars on Thursday and the Voyageurs had a pair of players tabbed with the honour, both for the second time in their university careers.  Goaltender, Connor Vande Weghe, was as the 2nd Team Goalkeeper.  The 4th year Sports Administration student finished top 10 in the OUA, stopping 53 shots over 10 games and a save percentage of .779.  Defender, Liam Ezzard, joined Vande Weghe on the 2nd Team as he tallied two goals and anchored a back line that gave up just 23 goals in 16 games.

Goaltender, Caitlin McNamara was recognized as an all-star for the second time in her four year career after being named to the OUA 2nd Team on Wednesday.  In 15 games, McNamara amassed a 4-6-5 record, finishing top 10 in the OUA in saves with 83 and an .814 save percentage.  She also added 5 shutouts on the season.  Joining McNamara on the 2nd Team was fourth year midfielder Catherine Rocca, who started in all 16 games for Laurentian and controlled the middle of the pitch each time she was on the field.

On the baseball front, it was Justin Dineen who was recognized on for his prowess with the bat this season, earning 2nd Team Designated Hitter honours on Tuesday.

The awards and recognition wrap up the seasons for the baseball and soccer teams, who will now use the off-season to prep for 2019.
